July During July we sent a large number of parcels to Cuba and we have received thank you letters for those,which included the water purification tables and over the counter drugs and even prescription drugs. Yesterday we recevied a request for large syringes for Vitamin B injections. Dr. Newberry is going to order them for us. I personally sent shampoo to the ladies of the Brothers with whom I deal, as shampoo is not available in Cuba. June We have just purchased 14,000 water purification tablets [Aquatabs] [each tablet purifies 20 liters of water.] We should have them some time this week and then we will start to mail them to Cuba

We have received through the Customs of the Republic, a book of Masonic literature of great interest for the Brethren, above all the young ones, and an instrument to measure pressure. The rest of the medicines, after several trips to La Habana (6) and undergoing a series of bureaucratic negotiations, it still has been impossible to collect them, as we were informed, there are three different invoices. We would like to point out that a package was received by registered mail, sent directly to the Lodge, containing two bottles of multivitamins, each with 365 tablets, and a bottle of Acetominopaene [sic] with 500 tablets, which we have already sent you an acknowledgment of receipt for this shipment. As soon as we have news about what is still pending to be delivered we shall let you know. The medicines received are under control of the Lodge and the three Doctors members of the Lodge will be entrusted with dispensing them to whoever needs them. Yesterday I went to a doctor and He said I have a severe glaucoma. i need urgently, he said in a month, some medicine but I tried to get it one in Cuba but there isn't any. He said I need it one to decrease the presure of the eyes if not I need a surgery but it is not sure that will be ok for ever. I am very worried to be a blind man. I am pleased to report that my Dear Brother Jose Maria in Costa Rica has purchased the drops need and they have been mailed to Cuba Feb 8 I have just mailed 8 packages to Cuba, to the country lodges. and have another note from Cuba Great, Thanks. Nelson King, January Jan 30 Just had a request for a blood tester. Which I will mail on Monday. A Cuban friend in Miami will send the test strips. On friday I mailed the some of the Stethoscopes and blood pressure machine. Jan 27 I just picked up 6 more stethoscopes at cost of over 550.00. These will be mailed out most likely next week as I have more tests to be done this week at Toronto General Hospital.Jan 15 Today I ordered 6 more Littmann Stethoscopes Classic II S.E. and 4 more Aneroid SphygmomanometerJan 14 Dear Brother Nelson: Jan 11 I have prepared 7 parcels to be sent to Lodges in Cuba. They contain multi-vitamins and ASA. They will be sent in the morning.
December Dec 3 We just purchased over $400.00 worth of vitamens which we shall ship over the next little while. I just mailed two more parcels of pain killers to Cuba and Jose Maria is getting an asked for prescription filled. Also mailing some Spanish Masonic Books to them. November November 24 I recieved the following message from Cuba: I want to tell you that the brothers from the Lodge of Guanaba, want to thank you for the quality of the stetoscope and the pressure reader, the doctor say is well advanced, they have not seen other equal ever. The doctor is very impress. Our list of lodges and individuals that we are giving aid to continues to grow. We have today added 2 more “country” Lodges. As usual these lodges have medical committees with Doctors who are members. Those listed as individuals are actually contacts for Lodges. We have now mailed 5 Stethoscopes and Sphygmomanaters to new lodges that we have added. And we are filling request for individual's prescriptions. Any help you can give would be appreciated. I have mailed an award to the Grand Lodge of Costa Rica, which they will present to him. Thank you Jose Maria. We have a box full of hotel .shampoo, soap, lotions etc. which will shortly mail to Logia Humanidad, also four bottles of Ibuprofen. August 2009 I had some prescriptions that I had not filled after I got out of the hospital. They were heavy duty diuretics. Those and hypos donated by Dr. Newbery have been sent to Logia Humanidad for Brother Garcia who is in desperate need of those diuretics.August 2009 Received noltification that all parcels sent to Logia Modestia Ciego de Avila, Cuba and Brother Prado have arrived safely.

I am pleased to report that since the machine has got there neither Alejandro Angelo and Alex Anthony have been hospitalized. March - July We have mailed a large number of supplies to Cuba during this time. We however did not have access to the previous web site as I had retired as Editor of The Philalethes Society. Also we have sent Humanitarian Awards to the District Grand Lodge of Bahamas and Turks, and to the Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador. Ellen and I went out today and purchased Also ordered another Case of water purification tablets. Which we will be sending to Gran Logia de Cuba, Logia Humanidad, and Logia Modestia in the next couple of days.

A large number of parcels have reached Cuba, and I have mailed over 28 this month.
This morning I mailed via air mail a parcel of this AquaTabs to the Gran Logia. I have found the wholesaler of AquaTabs in Canada who is not only selling them to us at wholesale prices, but also without the cardboard packaging, which will cut down on the weight and therefore the cost of shipping.

We have had a request from the Grand Secretary of the Gran Logia de Cuba, R. W. William Rojas Aguilar, for more Colostomy Bags. Yet once again Friends of Ostomates Worldwide Canada has come to our aid. I will be travelling to Ottawa to pick up the supplies and send them to Gran Logia.
We have supplied the two clinics with good quality stethoscopes, [Littmann Classic II S.E.] and sphygmomanometers. Each got 2 of each. This month we sent 2 more stethoscopes and 2 sphygmomanometers for use in Lansó National Masonic Home. We have also sent approx. 100 pounds of vitamins and Acetaminophen. We have also had filled a number of prescription drugs. It appears that I a not as competent with this new format and it appears I have lost most of the other updates that I posted. May 2006 Since its conception The Masonic Relief for Cuba program has sent over 2500 lbs. of prescription, non-prescription drugs and medical paraphernalia to Logia Humanidad's little clinic for Masons and their families in Santiago, and to the Lansó Masonic Home for the Aged. This year the program has been expanded to cover other Lodges in Cuba, which have been hosts to Canadian Brethren. We also now have a second clinic at Logia Modestia Ciego de Avila .
Parcels of drugs have also been sent by Masons who are Medical Doctors living in Israel and Costa Rica. Individual Drug Prescriptions from Cuba are filled by Masons who are Medical Doctors in Costa Rica and then sent to Cuba. |
